Slippage and Fills: Why Your Trade Opens or Closes at a Different Price

  • Positive Slippage: Mas favorable ang actual execution price.

Execution Side Favorable Fill Unfavorable Fill
Buy Actual price is lower than reference Actual price is higher than reference
Sell Actual price is higher than reference Actual price is lower than reference

Buy Slippage = (Reference Price − Fill Price) ÷ Pip Size

Sell Slippage = (Fill Price − Reference Price) ÷ Pip Size

Slippage vs. Spread: Magkaiba Sila

Balikan ang Lesson 1.5 — Spread, Swap, and Commission.

Order Type Paano Ito Karaniwang Gumagana Execution Consideration

  • 1 standard lot = 100 troy ounces.
  • Position size = 0.05 lot, o 5 troy ounces.

Example 1: Negative Slippage sa Market Buy

Example 2: Positive Slippage sa Market Buy

Example 3: Negative Slippage sa Stop-Loss

Ipagpalagay na mayroon kang XAUUSD buy position na may ganitong details:

  • Actual Buy Entry: 2,004.00
  • Original Stop-Loss: 1,995.00
  • Position Size: 0.05 lot
  • Planned Stop Distance: $9.00, o 900 pips

1,995.00 − 1,994.00 = $1.00 = 100 pips

Kaya ang actual gross price loss ay:

2,004.00 − 1,994.00 = $10.00 = 1,000 pips

1,000 pips × $0.05 per pip = $50.00

Ang comparison ay:

Measurement Hypothetical Amount
Planned gross loss $45.00
Actual gross price loss $50.00
Additional loss from slippage $5.00
Realized gross R-multiple Approximately −1.11R

Para sa R-multiple:

−$50 ÷ $45 ≈ −1.11R

  • Trade A: 900-pip stop distance.
  • Trade B: 150-pip stop distance.

Para sa Trade A:

20 ÷ 900 × 100% ≈ 2.22%

Execution Reference Price Actual Fill Slippage
Market Buy 2,004.30 2,004.80 −50 pips
Market Buy 2,004.30 2,004.20 +10 pips
Stop-Loss Sell 1,995.00 1,994.00 −100 pips

Demo Execution vs. Live Execution

  • Walang guaranteed slippage-free execution: May trade-off ang price constraints at fill probability.

This lesson is for educational purposes only and is not financial advice. Trading forex, gold CFDs, and other leveraged products carries a high risk of loss. All examples are hypothetical and use invented numbers. Actual results may differ because of market liquidity, spreads, slippage, commissions, financing charges, contract specifications, execution modes, and broker-specific rules. Stop-loss orders cannot guarantee an exact maximum loss. Never risk money you cannot afford to lose.
